Guiuan, Eastern Samar has a very important role in the history of the Philippines. One of its islands, Homonhon, was the first land set foot upon in March 16, 1521 after so many months at sea by the great Portuguese navigator, Ferdinand Magellan, who was in the employ of the King and Queen of Spain.
