Give the devil his due. Without that devilish irritant in each of us we’d never mold a pearl. We’d never reach for the forbidden fruit that opens our eyes to unexplored realms of knowledge, including self-knowledge. We’d never come out of the wilderness with a vision. Without the devil we’d still be just another animal building the same exact nest for another million years.
