Lorraine Weir is a settler scholar and oral historian, descendant of displaced Celts, and Emeritus Professor of Indigenous Studies at UBC. She grew up on unceded Kanien’kehá and Beothuk territories and has extensively studied freedom of speech, "time immemorial," and "oral tradition" in Canadian law. Trained by Joseph J. Arvay, she served as an expert witness in Canadian censorship cases. Her work includes publications on censorship, James Joyce, and Canadian writers, and she has collaborated
