Ward Six Fire Protection District No. One of Calcasieu Parish was established in 1986 due to growth taking place in the areas surrounding DeQuincy and in north Sulphur. The department covers a total of 125 square miles and initially started with three fire stations along Highway 27 and six fire trucks, with two trucks being housed at each station.
