The Kankakee, Beaverville & Southern Railroad (KBSR) was formed in 1977 to operate a 25 mile segment of former New York Central trackage between Sheldon and Kankakee, Illinois. As the larger connecting railroads continued their efforts to downsize, KBSR continued to grow, reaching 155 miles by 1995. The KBSR serves a predominately agricultural region of the midwest.
