After graduating from medical school with Honors, he completed a residency in General Surgery at University of Illinois at Chicago and fellowship training at University of California Irvine in advanced minimally invasive, bariatric, hernia, and robotic surgery. Dr. Varela completed an international Diplomate in Hernia Surgery and Abdominal Wall Reocnstruction and Diastasis Repair.
