COVID-19 is still extremely widespread with no mitigations being taken in much of the world. Official numbers are being significantly undercounted, 1 but as of March 2023 in the United States alone there are hundreds of thousands of COVID cases, tens of thousands hospitalized, and thousands of deaths a week due to COVID.
