Agalis Manessi makes hand painted maiolica ceramics using the ancient technique of mixing coloured oxides with tin glaze. She has developed a painterly and confident sensitivity of brushwork to animate the surfaces of her pieces. Her subjects include vessels and modelled figures based on characters from paintings, characterful animals, cats, dogs and hares.
